What We Do
With the support of Beacon Community Services, Saanich School District, and PLAY, we:
- Facilitate connections between and among community agencies. Some
of these include: Camosun College, Common Ground, Vancouver Island
Preschool Association, NIL/TU,O Child and Family Services, Tsartlip
Brighter Futures, Panorama Recreation Centre, the Vancouver Island
Regional Library, and Queen Alexandra Centre for Children’s Health.
Create and distribute resources for families:
- Peninsula Parks and Play Spaces: A Community Green Map
Host events for children and families:
- National Child Day Celebration in November of each year
- An annual “Children Count!” Fair in the spring
- "Play Days in the Parks" (2007)
Promote literacy activities:
- At all PCEC-sponsored events
- Through the PCEC “1000 X 5” Children’s Book Recycling Project
Looking Ahead
In the coming years, we plan to:
- Continue to develop broader community connections
- Facilitate liaison between Kindergarten and Early
Childhood personnel on the Saanich Peninsula
- Connect with municipal politicians and planners to
encourage development of child- and family-friendly
community neighborhoods
